Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl Book Recommendation

Roald Dahl's classic children's tale is a perfect blend of fantasy and reality.

Kids relate to Charlie as the underdog kid, from the poor family who doesn't get everything he wants and they cheer when he wins in the end!

They appreciate the mean kids in the book getting their "just rewards" when they show their greed and nastiness.

Kids delight in imagining all the wonderful candy Willy Wonka invents and the descriptions of life in the chocolate factory bring the book's setting alive for young readers.

You can even include a "cooking" activity in which kids can try to recreate the candies described in the book.

The Oompa-Loompa songs also offer the opportunity for sing and dance-a-longs, as well.

Even if kids have seen the movie versions of the book, the original is still worth a read and kids will really get into it.

You can even have kids read the book and then watch the two movies followed by comparing and contrasting the book with the movies.

Note from Megan, Editor of the Book Club Guide

What a great book you've picked, Cnessia. Roald Dahl is one of the best children's book authors around. He's written so many books that have inspired young children to imagine and to love reading!

Other great Dahl books include The Witches, James and the Giant Peach and The BFG.
