Stephen King Book Club

What is a Stephen King book club? If you're a fan of Stephen King - the popular and prolific horror, fantasy and science fiction writer - joining a Stephen King book club can help you grow your King book collection and share your interest in his writing.

There are two types of book clubs, the first is a membership book club that you join to receive books at discounted prices, and the second is a discussion group that meets on a regular basis to discuss reading selections. We'll discuss both types of clubs here.

Stephen King Discount Book Club

You have a couple choices for joining a discount online Stephen King book membership club. There is one exclusively Stephen King membership club, the Stephen King Library. Though that is an option, it's probably not your best choice.

The problem with this choice is that it offers only King books - so if there is another horror or mystery book you'd like to purchase at a discounted price, you're out of luck.

DBC: 4 books for 99 cents plus free book

One of the most well-known and popular online book clubs is Doubleday. If you're interested in joining a Stephen King Book Club I would recommend this club.

Doubleday has more than 50 Stephen King books you can choose from (nearly every book King ever wrote).

Plus, it has a huge selection of other books you can buy at discounted club prices. You can buy them for yourself or purchase them as gifts.

One of the best features of the Doubleday Book Club is the introductory offer. Typically, you can get four or five books for just $0.99 plus shipping and handling. Even after the introductory offer books are discounted because you're buying directly from the publisher.

Stephen King Book Discussion Group

Fans of Stephen King enjoy getting together to talk about what they've read, and that's where a book discussion group comes in.

Start your Stephen King book club by getting together a group of people interested in reading King's books. Find them by posting ads on an online classified service like Craigslist or at your local book store or library.

Next, determine how often your club will meet. Monthly? Quarterly? Then, determine where the meetings will take place. Libraries, book store and member's homes are popular locations.

Once you've set up a schedule, select one King book to read before each meeting. Then, at the meeting discuss the book. Questions to discuss might include:

  • How did the book make you feel?
  • What tone or style did King use?
  • How did it differ from King's other works? How is it similar?
  • How did the setting contribute to the book?
  • What motivated the characters to act as they did?
  • How did the narrator's voice affect the book?
  • Does King make use of symbolism or imagery? How do they affect the book?
  • What passages were particularly significant? Discuss them.

What books should your club read? You could read classic King works like "Carrie" or "Kujo" or his current novels like "Under the Dome". You may want to add in some of King's short stories as well. Find a complete list of Stephen King's work on the Stephen King Author's Page.
